REPUBLICAN LEGISLATURE BETRAYS THE PEOPLE OF KANSAS

With the final gavel of the 2025 legislative session, Republicans bring back Brownback-era tax policies

The Kansas Legislature ended the 2025 session with a flurry of veto overrides that will cause harm to working class Kansas families and benefit the wealthiest Kansans. Through one such override, Senate Bill 269, Republicans constructed a Brownback-era tax plan that will benefit the wealthiest Kansans and do little to nothing to provide actual tax relief to working families in the state.

“While Republicans campaigned on lowering costs for Kansans last fall, their Supermajority did nothing to bring real property tax relief to struggling seniors, workers, and families. Instead, Republicans passed a flat tax that helps the wealthiest at the top and sets us up for a return to the days of the Brownback administration, which consisted of draconian cuts to essential services and four-day school weeks. We will make sure voters don’t forget this come next fall,” said Kansas Democratic Party Chair Jeanna Repass.
