KANSAS DEMOCRATIC PARTY CALLS OUT ELECTION INTERFERENCE BY WYANDOTTE COUNTY ELECTION OFFICE
The WyCo Election Office Sent Advance Ballots with a Dead Return PO Box Address
TOPEKA, KS – The Kansas Democratic Party has become aware that voters in Wyandotte County have received their mailed ballots back from the USPS as 'return to sender' due to all Wyandotte County mail ballot envelopes being misaddressed.
The Wyandotte County election office has failed in its obligation to Wyandotte County voters to notify and provide guidance for them to know of the error and to make certain their vote counts.
“Not only is this neglectful and an abdication of their duty, but the extra effort and uncertainty rings of the poll taxes of the past. Wyandotte county has the highest concentration of black and brown voters in the state,” said Kansas Democratic Party Chair Jeanna Repass. “As the daughter of a civil rights leader, I find it wholly unacceptable that any Kansan be denied their right to vote or made to go through additional hoops just because of their county or zip code.”
We call on the Wyandotte County election office to:
Provide guidance, direction, and support to all affected voters to ensure their ballots are received and counted.
Provide voters with the steps being taken to remedy this issue.
Provide all voters with an explanation of how this error occurred, as well as, the steps the office is taking to ensure this does not happen in the future.
Regardless, the Kansas Democratic Party will be laser-focused on making sure voters have their vote count. If you are affected by a 'return to sender' issue or have any questions regarding your status please visit https://myvoteinfo.voteks.org/
