FOUR YEARS AFTER DOBBS, KANSAS GOP CANDIDATES FOR GOVERNOR STILL OUT OF STEP WITH KANSANS ON REPRODUCTIVE FREEDOM
TOPEKA – Today marks four years since Roe v. Wade was overturned. Six weeks later, Kansans resoundingly voted to protect the constitutional right to reproductive freedom, without government interference and overreach.
Republicans running for governor in 2026 are set on rolling back those freedoms. Ty Masterson, Philip Sarnecki, and Scott Schwab have built campaigns on restricting reproductive rights and violating patient privacy in Kansas – putting them squarely out of step with the majority of Kansans.
MASTERSON:
Masterson is a lead backer of an August 4 amendment to elect Kansas Supreme Court justices, and privately told a group that electing justices would reverse the court's reproductive rights ruling, adding, "you can't go out there and say it" publicly.
Masterson voted for an extreme bill restricting reproductive rights even in cases of rape or incest, which the Kansas Supreme Court struck down in 2024
Kansas Choice Tracker, a nonpartisan voter guide, labels Masterson an "anti-choice extremist" based on his voting record.
SARNECKI:
At the first GOP debate, Sarnecki joined his rivals in calling for restricting reproductive health care in Kansas clinics.
He also said that reproductive rights are "not an issue" of freedom, health care, or women's rights.
SCHWAB:
Kansans for Life PAC endorsed Schwab’s 2022 reelection as secretary of state, citing what the group called his “100% pro-life record” and he has consistently reaffirmed his opposition to reproductive rights
Schwab also voted for a bill that restricted reproductive freedom even in cases of rape or incest, which the Kansas Supreme Court struck down in 2024
Kansans deserve a governor who respects the decision voters made in 2022, not one looking for new ways to overturn it.
